This is the Uyuni salt flat in teh center of South America, so big that is visible from space. I never wondered if a salt has any function. Earth as we know it today is the result of a biological process. Forests, rivers, aquifers, salt flats … all have a function. In the Uyuni salt flat, the clouds that travel from the west find a place of electric charge, and the salt flat does not allow them to continue their journey west, and they return loaded to carry the rain that feeds back the forests that exhaled them.
