Statement

We offer our tribute on the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth playing his Pastoral Symphony in Czerny’s 4-hand revisitation. Despite having been conditioned by the rules of distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic that prevented us from playing together, we chose to perform the second movement and we tried to highlight the character of the opera. Coronavirus made us aware of the importance of nature in the human life because, deprived of the contact with it, we hope that human beings will learn to respect it. Furthermore we took inspiration from orchestral performances of the Symphony, in order to give a character as close as possible to Beethoven’s expressive intentions, paying particular attention to those elements, scattered throughout the score, which directly recall the sounds of nature, such as the singing of birds in the woods (the nightingale, the quail and the cuckoo).
